La salamandra es un anfibio de gran tamaño que paradójicamente es más fácil observar en estadíos juveniles, cuando es minúsculo, mientras que los adultos aun siendo grandes saben esconderse bien y verse en contadas ocasiones. Este ejemplar se encontraba en un pilón de agua limpia en la que además había tricópteros, un insecto de aguas limpias y con cierta corriente. No resulta especialmente complicado encontrar estos animales en la sierra de grazalema ya que generalmente las aguas que corren por la montaña suelen estar limpias, a excepción de aquellas zonas muy transitadas por el ganado donde a los anfibios les cuesta más resistir. Son anfibios que precisan media y alta montaña por lo que en la mayor parte de la provincia de Cádiz están ausentes. Si bien tienen colores amarillos de adulto que indican toxicidad, nada que ver con los anfibios tropicales.
